Sasi Varadharajan is a Legal Intern at our Firm. She is currently researching various laws pertaining to child sexual abuse. She has worked extensively on the issue of in-river sand mining in the banks of river Cauvery, wherein, she filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Hon’ble Madras High Court and went on to write National and International research papers on the same. Her efforts were recognised with a Best Oral Presenter award in the 16th International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology (CEST 2019, Greece). During her brief tenure as an Intern at the Law Commission of India, Sasi assisted in the preparation of a report on the rights of a child in utero. She has completed courses on subjects like International Water Law, Child Rights, International Arbitration of Disputes from the Universities of Geneva and Leiden, which portray her interest in multi-disciplinary studies for finding legal solutions. She has also had the experience of working with the Ministry of External Affairs, State Human Rights Commission, etc., during her days at law school. She has also completed a summer course at the Indian Society of International Law which helped her enhance her knowledge in the realm of International Law, especially, the Public International Law, Law of Treaties, State Responsibilities, International Criminal Law, International Environmental Law, etc. To study the practical life, livelihood and energy consumption of Tribal people, she volunteered with the Indian Department of Science and Technology’s ‘Protected Areas Program’, a first-hand experience about the working of Forest Laws and Traditional Dwellers Rights. She is also a LAMP fellow wherein she assisted the Members of Parliament with policy decision. She possesses experience of litigating in the District Courts for a few months on the lines of Family Law, Criminal and Civil Litigation, Crimes against Women and Children (Mahila Courts) and Bail cases.
