Biography

Geethika K

Geethika K is an Advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Her practice spans litigation, judicial research, and advisory work, with a focus on arbitration, criminal law, and civil disputes. She is currently associated with GM Legal, where she actively engages in a wide range of matters, both contentious and advisory.

Prior to her current engagement in GML, Geethika was placed as a Research Associate on the Editorial Board of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. Her previous role involves preparation of authoritative headnotes for publication in the Electronic Supreme Court Reports (ESCR), in addition to her contributions to the Digi SCR initiative, an digital legal archival project of the Hon’ble Apex Court.
Prior to her appointment at the Apex Court, she served as a Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistant to a sitting Judge of the Hon’ble Madras High Court, where she undertook extensive legal research and analytical tasks across a wide spectrum of matters under the Court’s civil, criminal, contempt, appellate and writ jurisdictions. Her responsibilities included drafting case synopsis, researching complex legal propositions and assisting in judicial decision-making processes on substantial questions of law.

Geethika began her legal career in litigation practice before the Hon’ble Madras High Court and various subordinate and quasi-judicial forums in Chennai. During this time, she handled a diverse array of cases, particularly those involving land disputes, constitutional writs and governmental litigations. She also served as a Legal Assistant to the Teachers Recruitment Board, Government of Tamil Nadu, where she was entrusted with defending the Board in constitutional and service-related litigation before the Hon’ble Madras High Court and its Madurai bench and preparing materials for Special Leave Petitions before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

Litigation

  • Assisted and worked in Writ Petition before the Madars High Court involving land issues, tender matters and statutory interpretation and also engaged in work related to Arbitration matters.
  • Worked on criminal law matters, including bail applications and quash petitions under Section 482 of the CrPC.
  • Handled cases involving Rent Control, property law and tenancy regulations

Advisory

  • Contributes to the advisory team that provides guidance and support to non-profit organizations, specifically those offering safe shelter and resources to victims of domestic violence and queer persons. Closely worked on drafting lease agreements and ensuring statutory compliance for operating shelters and office across various locations.
  • Assisted in matters involving financial recovery and contractual claims by preparing demand notices and providing inputs on potential legal and settlement options.
