Biography

Niraimathi Nagarajan

Niraimathi Nagarajan is a Senior Associate spearheading the cross-jurisdictional practice of GM Legal.

Niraimathi is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, UK, where she focused on Criminal Law, Family Law, Advanced Private Law and Information Law thereby bringing a unique combination of legal knowledge and expertise to the table.

While she practiced in India, she has appeared before the Madras High Court, the District Courts, the Consumer Disputes forum etc. representing individuals as well as businesses. She played an extensive role in researching and assisting in matters pertaining to complex questions of law in Criminal and Constitutional Law cases. She has assisted in various cases of high importance and drafted civil, criminal and constitutional law petitions, complex contracts, wills, etc. She has conducted cross-examinations in criminal cases and has advised corporate clients and drafted various legal documents to cater to their requirements. She has also liaised with the Reserve Bank of India, the British High Commission in India, the Family Court at Romford etc. in cross-jurisdictional cases.

At the moment, she leads a Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury project titled “Zippy” in association with Lawyers and Law Firms in Australia.

In the long run, she intends to pursue a career in the intersection of Criminal and Family Laws and cross-border cases.

Key Works

Litigation

  • Represented political leaders in a series of cases before the Advocate General of Tamil Nadu.
  • Part of the team of Advocates that filed and argued a landmark case which led to the High Court laying down extensive guidelines for the betterment of the LGBTQIA+ Community.
  • Worked on multiple criminal cases including transfer of investigation from the state police to the CBI, the question of sanction to prosecute public servants etc.

Corporate Advisory

  • Part of the team of Advocates that advised an international educational start-up company in setting up their base in India.
  • Part of the team of Advocates that worked on drafting a handbook for victims of domestic violence, gender-based violence and intimate partner violence.

Cross-jurisdictional work

  • Coordinated multiple cross-jurisdictional divorce cases in the UK and India.
